Successful fundraising made a Pitbull run again with his friends

A true story from Meredith King, Customer Service at KYON.

“In 2014, a one-year-old American Pitbull, named Tip, came into a boarding facility I worked at in South Florida. He was supposed to be staying for a short time, but his owner kept pushing back his pick-up date.  It soon became clear that he was being abandoned and forced to live at the facility for the next two years.

During his stay he was very loved by the staff and had lots of fun socializing with all the other dogs during playtime. Unfortunately, one day during playtime, he took a sharp turn and ended up tearing his ACL (anterior cruciate ligament). For his safety, advised by the doctors of the facility, he could no longer run around freely with the other dogs and was now only able to walk on leash alone with a staff member.

In 2016 the facility could no longer care for him and he was to be transferred to Animal Care and Control. The American Pitbull is banned in most areas of South Florida and I knew his outcome would not fare well. The next morning, I met him at A.C.C. to take him home with me to foster him knowing that finding a forever home would be more difficult with his physical restrictions at the time.

With the help of co-workers, friends, family, and kind strangers, we were able to raise enough money to get him the TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) surgery he needed. Fortunately, the implants used for this surgery were produced by KYON and after following the correct healing restrictions he had a successful recovery.

Once given the “okay” from his Veterinarian, he was able to socialize again with other dogs. Throughout the entire process he was a very happy, well behaved dog. After some searching, I was able to connect with an old co-worker who had a potential forever home for him. We had a very successful introduction and they were ready to take him into their home.

At the time I had no idea I would be working for KYON in the future and that the surgeon who performed the surgery was and still is a client of KYON. Thanks to a skilled surgeon along with the quality and science behind KYON’s product, Tip is now able to run around at the local dog park and play with his dog cousins every day.”
